What happens after I submit my application and pictures? The first thing you should get is an automated email response. This means that your application has reached our office. This will take a day or two (see below). Your application will be reviewed and you will get another email informing you whether or not your application has been accepted and how to pay your fees. You get 14 days to send in your cheque when your application is accepted. Once your payment is received, a receipt will be issued to you along with an assigned spot in the park.
I didn't get an automatic email when I sent in my application and/or pictures! First - don't panic - it sometimes takes us a day or so to get to our email. We have to open it to generate the auto-responses and if there are a lot of applications, sometimes the system can't cope. If you don't get an acknowledgement within a week, send us one email asking if we've received your application - then give us some time to figure out what happened. Please don't bombard us with emails about your application - it just slows everything down.
Where do I send my payment? Please send your payment to:-
Art in the Park,
53, Strathcona Avenue,
Ottawa,
ON, K1S 1X3.
Please make cheques payable to Art in the Park and write your assigned space number on the cheque.
Where is the park? (see How to find us)
Where should I park my car? We haven't been successful in arranging off-street parking. So, exhibitors will have to park on-street. Please note that there is a three-hour parking limit on-street in Ottawa.
Are the spaces given out on a first-come-first-served basis?
This year again spaces will be preassigned. Once we have received payment
you will receive a mailing that will give you your assigned location (A 7,
or D 19 for example) on the morning of the event you will find your space
in the park clearly marked with a corresponding number.
Isn't there any snow fence this year? No, we are no longer
providing snow fence. An update will be posted later on explaining how you
can build your own structure to hang paintings from, check back on our home
page in April.
When do I set up? In order to respect the neighbours next to the park, noise and activity in the park cannot begin before 7:00am. Art in the Park staff will visit each booth to assure that participants are set up in the correct pre-assigned spots, respecting the size of their space and the spaces of their neighbours.
How can I display my paintings? Tim Deslippes, a 2005 Art in the Park participant, explains how to easily create a structure. See sketch 1 (without the tarp on top) and sketch 2 (with tarp).
What if it is raining? Our event will go ahead unless the weather is catastrophic. Please prepare to protect yourself and your work in the event of rain. Be sure to bring a plastic sheet or tarp. Just a reminder that anyone set up at 10am is NOT permitted to strike camp before 5pm. Once you are set up, you are committed for the event. In the event of rain, there will be no refunds.
Will there be toilets? There will be portable facilities available on site as well as hand-washing stations.
Will there be food? There will be food and coffee available at the park on the day of the event.
What do I do on Saturday night? At the end of the day on Saturday all art work and merchandise should be taken away from the park. Booths, shelving units, and very large heavy objects can be left behind. There will be security in the park over night, to make sure there is no vandalism. Art in the Park will NOT be responsible for any items left over night (including the above mentioned).
Clean up? At the end of the day all participants are responsible for cleaning their own area. Please be sure to bring a garbage bag and take your garbage home with you (there will NOT be room for everyone to dump their garbage behind at the end of the day as the garbage cans will be full at that point). Art in the Park is a green organization and we pride ourselves on being able to leave the park behind just as we found it.
