About Art in the Park

Art in the Park is a home-grown, non-commercial Arts Festival in Ottawa's Glebe neighbourhood. Art in the Park's first year was a collection of 20 artists and a few musicians in the park. Fourteen years later Art in the Park is an exciting venue with over 250 visual artists in addition to numerous musical acts, dancing, buskers and theatrics. Set in the park, this outdoor family event is free of admission, all are welcome to roam around the park and take part in the festivities. We feel that there are too few opportunities for young and upcoming artists in the region; our mandate is to create an accessible art venue for all who create and perform in a hassle free environment. Our criteria are technical, not aesthetic (all vendors must have created their own work).

Originally conceived by Bhat Boy in 1993 as an event to bring the local arts community together this annual event has blossomed into the regions foremost outdoor art event. Rain or shine Art in the Park goes ahead, bigger every year than the last. Whether you are interested in the arts, or just interested in a fun day roaming around the park, this event is for you, come join us.

Art in the Park is a non-profit event and the low price to participate helps artists avoid the necessity to produce work to turn a quick buck just to break even. As a result Art in the Park is a place where you can expect to see "real" art, talk to "real" artists and generally spend a day enjoying the fruit of the labour of people who live their lives as creators. This, of course, includes the wonderful musicians, actors, dancers and drummers that perform all day along side the painters, sculptors, photographers, jewellers, potters, fibre artists, furniture makers, food and organic coffee providers from within the community.

Mandate

Art in the Park's mandate is to provide an affordable opportunity for all artists and craftspeople to exhibit (including the young and the unestablished). We are a non profit corporation dedicated to helping foster artistic growth and development within our community. We are non-commercial that means that we do not include any mass produced goods, nor do we have any representation from large chains or corporations. All of our products, food, and music are the product of those who are represented at our festival.
While our success is dependant upon many volunteers, our board is made up of 3 primary members:-

Thanks

While Art in the Park is an autonomous corporation and the event is run primarily on the funds raised through applicant fees, we would like to thank the following for the financial assistance that made us happen in the past years:-
